YMS VIS Pro is an information system for veterinary and food administration, veterinarians and farm. Due to a combination of improper method for system credentials generation and weak password policy, passwords can be easily guessed and enumerated through brute force attacks. Successful attacks can lead to unauthorised access and execution of operations based on assigned user permissions. This vulnerability affects VIS Pro in versions <= 3.3.0.6. This vulnerability has been mitigated by changes in authentication mechanisms and implementation of additional authentication layer and strong password policies.
The vulnerability results from a combination of two weaknesses: improper system credential generation method (CWE-287) and weak password policy (CWE-521). As a result, system passwords are predictable and can be easily guessed or calculated using automated brute force attacks. No prior privileges or user interaction are required, and the attack can be conducted remotely over the network.
A successful attack leads to unauthorized access to the system and the ability to perform operations within the permissions assigned to the compromised user account, which may include access to sensitive veterinary and administrative data.
The manufacturer mitigated the vulnerability through changes in authentication mechanisms, implementation of an additional authentication layer, and introduction of a strong password policy. The system should be updated to a version newer than 3.3.0.6 and patches available from the manufacturer should be applied in accordance with the references.
