A logic issue was addressed with improved checks. This issue is fixed in iOS 18.4 and iPadOS 18.4, macOS Sequoia 15.4, macOS Sonoma 14.7.5, macOS Ventura 13.7.5, tvOS 18.4, watchOS 11.4. An app may be able to gain elevated privileges.
The vulnerability results from improper default permissions (CWE-276) — faulty logic checks in the system allow an application to request or obtain privileges beyond those that should be granted to it. Apple indicates that the issue was fixed by introducing enhanced verification mechanisms. An attacker can deliver a malicious application that exploits this error for privilege escalation.
A malicious application can obtain elevated privileges in the system, potentially enabling access to protected resources, data from other applications, or execution of operations reserved for privileged system processes.
Systems should be updated to the following versions: iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4, macOS Sequoia 15.4, macOS Sonoma 14.7.5, macOS Ventura 13.7.5, tvOS 18.4, watchOS 11.4. Patches are available directly from system settings or through Apple support pages referenced in the documentation.
