The issue results from improper memory handling (CWE-400 — uncontrolled resource consumption) during web content rendering. An attacker can prepare a specially crafted website or other web content, whose processing leads to memory resource exhaustion and consequently to an unexpected termination of the Safari process. The attack requires no authentication or interaction other than the user visiting the malicious page.
An attacker can cause an unexpected crash of Safari on the victim's device, resulting in loss of browser availability and potentially affecting the confidentiality and integrity of data processed in its context.
Software should be updated to the following versions: Safari 18.4, iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4 (or iPadOS 17.7.6), macOS Sequoia 15.4, tvOS 18.4, visionOS 2.4, watchOS 11.4. Updates are available through Apple's system update mechanism.
Safari before version 18.4, iOS and iPadOS before versions 18.4 and iPadOS before 17.7.6, macOS Sequoia before 15.4, tvOS before 18.4, visionOS before 2.4, watchOS before 11.4.
